“Beautiful You : Natural Ways to Tighten Skin”

Two years into an ongoing pandemic that shuttered the entire globe, finally we are savoring the return to in-person socialization. This made me realised I can’t take social media filters and beauty apps with me to real life events. And it’s not that I really want to — our faces disclose our wellbeing, character, ethnicity, and how long we’ve been in this human race.

As we age, our skin changes. Whatever worked in our 30s won’t do us any favors in our 40s — or 50s. Sagging, fine lines, dark spots, discoloration and hyperpigmentation-they’re perfectly natural features of skin that’s matured (no shame). However, some people prefer to see themselves with more even complexion and a smoother skin texture.

If you wince at the thought of going under the needle or don’t have hundreds (or thousands!) to spend on dermatologists’ sessions, there are easy, pain-free, and relatively inexpensive solutions that can definitely help stave off visible signs of aging and make your skin look younger naturally. But, before we get into the remedies, lets have a look at what wrinkles are and why they occur?

So, What Are Skin Wrinkles?

Wrinkles are also called rhytides. They are creases in the skin which become prominent with ageing when the skin starts losing its elasticity.

Signs & Symptoms

  • Fine lines around the eyes, neck, and mouth
  • Skin sagging in some areas, especially on the neck and face
  • Deep wrinkles or furrows around the eyes and lips
  • Loose skin on the hands

How can I make my skin look younger naturally?

Here you go

Turmeric & Coconut Oil

This powerful spice doesn’t belong to the kitchen only! The natural anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric make it a perfect pick to even out the skin texture and keep the glow going. Also, just to warn you, this ingredient can stain the skin, so it is always good to pair it with any sort of pigment-removing oil such as coconut or olive oil.

Ice

When it comes to puffiness on face, ice is the first thing that can be used in the morning after cleansing. “I personally prefer taking the ice cube out of the freezer, wait for a minute, then use it on the skin”. For some people, using it directly from freezer can be a little too rough and cold on the delicate areas, especially around the eyes. So, in that case, cold water can help do the trick too.

Oatmeal Mask

This healthy grain is way more than just a refreshing breakfast. Oatmeal’s natural soothing properties make it ideal for healthy skin too, especially for dry and uneven skin. Simply reach for this humble grain when need an exfoliant, a natural oil absorber, or a easy way to treat blemishes.

Quick recipe is to combine a handful of oats, a few drops of lemon juice, and few drops of honey together in a bowl (make sure not to overdo it on the lemon, or you could irritate your skin). Blend the mixture well and then apply it to the face. Moving fingers in a circular motion on the face can exfoliate the skin gently. Allow it to rest for a few minutes and the wash off with normal water.

Yogurt

Yogurt has long been championed by all the moms around the world (including me) as a healthy way to kick start your day, but did you know it is also a perfect skincare solution too. For the DIY adventures, it’s a big NO NO to flavored fruit yogurts and always pick unsweetened, plain one. I prefer using plain yogurt as a mask as it includes lactic acid that can exfoliate the skin gently, giving a nice glow. You can mix honey with yogurt to enhance skin elasticity.

Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe vera deserves a regular spot in your skincare regime because of its incredible anti-inflammatory properties- your sunburn rescue is more than just a summer staple. Putting aloe vera gel amazingly tame sunburns and can do wonders for the acne spots.

I can vouch for these home remedies to get clear skin. I reach for these ingredients whenever my skin freaks out or appears a bit dreary in order to zap it back into the shape. Try these tricks and trust me, you’ll look more energized than ever.
